Millions of girls in countries face challenges in managing their periods due to a lack of access to sanitary products. Missing school, embarrassment, and health risks often result from period poverty.
Supporting menstrual equity ensures that girls receive both the products and the knowledge needed to navigate menstruation confidently and with dignity. Practical actions such as providing products, raising awareness, supporting educational programs, and engaging with communities make a meaningful difference. Communities benefit when girls have uninterrupted education and positive self-esteem.
Donate Products and Fundraising Initiatives
Providing essential supplies is one of the most immediate ways to make a difference. Donations of pads, tampons, and other menstrual products significantly impact low-income communities. Donation programs related to menstrual hygiene products for girls help reduce school absenteeism and improve educational outcomes. Fundraising initiatives or donation drives strengthen support for girls who otherwise lack access to sanitary supplies.
Volunteer in Awareness and Education Programs
Volunteering in educational programs helps spread critical knowledge and normalize conversations about menstruation. Menstrual awareness programs for schools provide girls with guidance on managing periods, hygiene practices, and understanding bodily changes. Educational workshops help reduce fear and anxiety, promoting confidence and healthy habits.
Advocate for Policy and Social Change
Advocacy plays a vital role in improving access to menstrual products and education. Engaging with menstrual health advocacy groups in underserved communities helps promote policies ensuring sanitary products are available in schools and public spaces. Initiatives that encourage school partnerships or corporate social responsibility programs strengthen long-term support structures. Promoting policy changes ensures that access to products is consistent, not temporary, while educating communities about the importance of menstrual health.
Support Nonprofits and Long-Term Initiatives
Sustained support for organizations working on menstrual issues guarantees lasting impact. Menstrual equity programs for teens and preteens provide both products and education to girls who might otherwise have no resources. International efforts in countries like Pakistan, India, and parts of Latin America reach thousands of school-aged girls, improving both access and awareness.
Empower Girls and Transform Their Futures
We are Nishka Utpat and Kaanchi Utpat, two teenage sisters who have started a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity called Utpat Foundation, committed to advancing menstrual equity programs for teens and preteens. Our goal is to raise awareness among preteens and teenage girls about menstrual hygiene, education, and other social issues. Through our efforts, we strive to help young girls understand their coming-of-age experiences, dispel fears, and build confidence in managing their menstrual health. The Utpat Foundation also runs a podcast, Girlhood Unfiltered, available on Apple iTunes, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Amazon Audible. Additionally, we have a YouTube channel, Utpat Sisters, with over 4.7k subscribers and 279k+ views, dedicated to empowering young girls through education and awareness.
