Recently, I wrote about the Kenyan Senator Gloria Orwoba, who was asked to leave parliament due to her protest against period shaming. She was protesting by entering the parliament with a period stain on her white suit. Almost all her colleagues all reacted negatively and asked her to leave.
Yesterday I came across a video made by “India Today” which is a major news company in India, about the same incident. [I have attached the link below]
This blew my mind. The fact that India, like Kenya is a developing country, that in some parts considers period discussion to be a “taboo” actually talked about this major incident in another country is heartwarming. BBC also covered this incident as well, showing how widespread the sharing of information on this incident is becoming around the globe! It shows the power of the ripple effect and how one small action can lead to another.
This shows how by propagating the spread of important incidents we can make a change that can impact the lives of so many people around us.
